Meet Julie Verrekia

Julie Verrekia, CPA, is the Firm’s Director of Quality overseeing the firms quality management, peer reviews, and technical accounting and auditing compliance.

Julie also performs Engagement Quality Reviews. She has over 35 years of experience in accounting and auditing, specializing in employee benefit plans.

Since 2007, Julie has been involved with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in the development and update of numerous employee benefit plan accounting and auditing publications and projects which includes the annual AICPA Audit and Accounting Guide, Employee Benefit Plans. She has authored numerous articles and has instructed webinars on employee benefit plan accounting and auditing topics. In 2016, Julie received the Advanced Defined Benefit Plans Audit Certificate and the Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit Certificate from the AICPA and was a key contributor to the development of the associated examination and related courses.

Julie was appointed to the Employee Benefit Plans Committee of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in 2009. She is a frequent presenter at the annual PICPA and AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Conferences on topics including Employee Benefit Plan Accounting and Auditing Updates, Statement on Auditing Standards No. 145, Understanding the Entity and Its Environment and Assessing the Risks of Material Misstatement, Audit Quality Matters and the Use of SOC 1 Reports in an Employee Benefit Plan Audit.

Julie is a former Managing Director of the employee benefit plan practice in the Philadelphia office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Julie also has experience with SSAE 18 engagements and audits of registered investment companies and similar investment funds.

Julie received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting graduating summa cum laude, from Widener University. She is a certified public accountant in the States of Pennsylvania and Florida and is a member of the AICPA and the PICPA.
